Pallet delivery to Italy is big for UK shippers, and it’s only getting bigger. The UK government’s latest factsheet shows total UK–Italy trade in goods and services hit £53.2 billion in the 12 months to March 2025, up 4.4% year-on-year. Italy ranked as the UK’s 9th-largest trading partner over that period.
Those who send a pallet to Italy might be exchanging goods like scientific instruments and general industrial machinery with Italian consumers. On the other side, the UK bought large volumes of Italian pharmaceuticals, clothing, cars, and beverages. Underpinning this demand for trade is a meaningful resident community.
According to Italy’s official statistics (ISTAT), 26,202 British citizens were officially resident in Italy on 1 January 2024, with the largest numbers in Lombardy, Lazio and Tuscany. In the other direction, Census 2021 recorded 276,669 Italy-born residents in England and Wales, and 368,738 residents holding an Italian passport in England and Wales alone.
So, if you engage in pallet shipping to Italy to exchange sentimental items, gifts, or to transport your things over from the UK, you’re a part of this booming industry. Speaking of gifts, it’d be hard to ignore the e-commerce industry as a major driver of trade. Italian online spending continued to rise, with Italy’s B2C e-commerce purchases valued at about €58.8 billion in 2024, up 6% on 2023. If you’re pallet shipping to Italy, this backdrop matters.

Keep everything flush with the pallet base so nothing protrudes past the edges – overhang is prone to damage and may trigger space-related surcharges that aren’t covered.

To get your load ready for pallet delivery to Italy, build a stable, non-top-heavy stack and secure it. Shipments can be moved between vehicles several times in transit, so bind the goods firmly to the base using shrink wrap, ratchet straps, rope or banding.

Cushion and protect individual items before they go on the pallet by using packaging such as bubble wrap, cardboard or polystyrene: this will help them withstand handling.

As freight is often stacked to maximise space, only mark a pallet as non-stackable when necessary and ensure that instruction is clearly visible on the outside; otherwise, keep the top surface level to support other loads during pallet shipping to Italy.
Engine parts and gearboxes must travel via our dedicated service – please call 0871 288 5741 for a tailored quote, and we’ll advise on the correct method for these items.
